One of the thing I like about Netflix is their “Watch Instantly” feature. That way I can try a movie out with out waiting for the DVD to show up, so if it sucks, I haven’t wasted 2 days waiting for its arrival. Anyway, after the successful viewing of Cashback (which I’ll write about below) I bought the compatible ROKU player (FYI: not a sales pitch) so I could transmit the signal to my TV. The also just released a workable disc for the Wii and both work fantastic!! So after some great viewings of films I would have otherwise never watched, I was so impressed with them after the…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Movies That Should Be on Blu Ray
With the abundance of Blu Ray titles on the market, I find myself thinking that there are a few worthy (and much-needed) titles that deserve the “New Blu Treatment”. I know it’s a slow process as there’s got to be an incredible back log of films still to be made over. Yet, as I see what has been released the more, I feel sorry for these titles not getting a fair shake and my heart goes out to the patient fans who remain wanting. What’s worse it that some of these films never even got anything more that a “VHS dump” version on DVD. So the fact that they are…

G-S-T Top 10 – Things You May Not Have Known About Me (Meme)
First off, I’d like to thank Meredith of M.Carter @ the Movies for getting me included on the latest cine-blogger topic. Here’s my nod to you Mer and as required, the “10 Movie-Related Things About Me” fulfilling my part of the reciprocity.

G-S-T Quick 5 – Movies I've Warmed Up To…
OK, here I am, humbly walking on the ground where I, like broken glass, laid out all the bad things I said about these movies. In the past I might have either not been in the right mindset for these films or maybe not been able to comprehend what they were trying to do. While not all of these are masterpieces (some fans would argue that one of them is) the films on this list now get my approval. I now feel much more of a connection with these films and honestly enjoy quite a bit whereas before I would say flat-out “I hated it”. Ah, the folly of youth… ——————————————————————————————————————————————— Boiler…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Movie Monologues
One of my favorite elements in a film is a succesful (and memorable) monologue. When an actor can deliver a series of lines and carry the scene on the talent of that speech, it brings a certain weight to the movie. Many times in movies a monologue can consist of throw away lines or be a cheesy sequence all together, but I have assembled some of my favorites that are truly great below because they really are standout performances. They are impressive, dramatic and in a few cases stand the test of time but yet they all exist on a level that showcases the actor’s true talents and is an example of how…

G-S-T Top 10 – Best Films of the Decade (Round 2)
Hey All, this is the last minute contribution from Rob, your friendly neighborhood foreign correspondent chiming in with my thoughts from downtown Yokohama, Japan. In the end, the 2000’s may be most notable for two things, “comic book movies” and “re-movies“. We’ve definitely run the gamut of superheroes and gone from the A tier hero’s, the D tier wannabe’s in comic book movies and with Re-movies being the remakes/reboots/rehashes of more things than should be legally done in the space of 10 years. With that said, mine is going to be a rather predictable list, but stopping to think of what I liked over the last ten years (and there are some hard hard…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Culturally Loved Movies That We Just Hate
A few weeks ago, Cinematical ran a post entitled “Movies that everyone seems to love but you” and that got me thinking. For years, I’ve had a grocery list of films that I just can’t get into, just don’t understand, or outright dislike. I have been thinking of these films from time to time but thanks to the post, I (after talking with Rob and Pete) have a great reason to consolidate these films. There is one common element in each of the films listed below that is a prime contributor making these films “not our cup of tea”, and that’s probably hype. If people always say, “that film is awesome!!“, and have said…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Hollywood’s finest working (foreign) actors
I’ve often said that some of the best American actors aren’t even from America. Without much more reasoning, other than I immensely like these actors and the varied parts the play, I present G-S-T’s latest Quick 5 list. Let me clarify, right off the bat, that this list is not some pretentious or whimsical list touting praise for the likes of near acting gods such as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Ben Kingsley, Gary Oldman, Bill Nighy etc. What I am attempting to do here is celebrate great actors (which I love) who may one day reach the heights and milestones those legendary actors have already garnered. So in no particular…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Replay Value on Movies with 'Twist Endings'
For a time in my life I was very much into the types of movies that had twist endings, and it was all I talked about. To this day, my favorite movie with an “ah ha” ending is And Then There Were None (which is such a well done film – I really have to watch it again soon). However, with so many films out there trying to give the audience a shocker ending or some sort of twist they’ve never seen before, unfortunately there are only so many ways to fool someone. After a while, you end up with cliche endings that just seem like lame knock-offs of a…

G-S-T Top 10 – Buddy Flicks
First off, let me preface this by saying that trying to compile a great buddy flick list is going to be hard enough. There are so many movies that fit this description it’s almost it’s own genre. To widdle it down to 10 was near impossible so at the bottom I have some very deserving entries in the “Honorable Mention” Category. Next, and probably more importantly, let me tell you all that this list is devoted to my favorite movies out there that have impressive, memorable and hysterical “buddy” plot lines. As you will see in the entries below, some films are formulaic “buddy flicks” but others are indeed not…
