Adult Swim has really jumped to the forefront of animation in the last twenty years. What was once the kind of thing that people would talk about in hushed tones – friends swapping grainy VHS copies of lewd shows in schools – is now in the mainstream and getting the attention these remarkable shows deserve.
Sure, some of the output is an acquired taste with stories/characters/jokes as wild as they come. But the team here at GST are fans, and we recently talked to Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks) as well as the team behind Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro) who help lead the zany charge for the network.
Today we get the privilege of dishing with the voice talent behind Royal Crackers – the newest hit on Adult Swim – and had a lot of fun talking about animation and storytelling with Jessica St. Clair, David Gborie and Maile Flannagan.
The show is hilarious and takes us back to the days of Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill. It goes from tame pretty outlandish in a flash and those unexpected narrative twists keep things interesting. Highly interesting! So have a listen and check out the show hitting Adult Swim and HBOMax next month. And fun fact: the series has already been greenlit for a second season. The Hornsby legacy lives on!
Royal Crackers was once the king of snacks, but the empire is crumbling. When the family patriarch, tyrannical company founder Theodore Hornsby Sr. ends up in a “super coma,” the rest of the Hornsbys will take their lack of talent and business acumen and try to make Royal Crackers the success it once was.
The first three episodes of “Royal Crackers” will debut on Adult Swim on Sunday, April 2, with new episodes premiering weekly Sunday at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
