Gallery1988 is a California art gallery that is devoted to finding unique and astonishing tributes to all manner of films. If you love The Iron Giant, Big Trouble in Little China, Ghostbusters, The Goonies and others like it then chances are you’ll find something right up your alley at the Gallery. They really do host a plethora of pieces ranging from classics to cult and beyond.
Now if you can’t tell from the header image this is a piece from an upcoming show devoted entirely to one beloved actor, Bill Murray (aka, the best cameo in modern film history). After the jump you’ll find a few of the pieces assembled for the upcoming exhibit which will open next Thursday November 3rd and close on November 26th, 2011.
For some more of what will be on display, click the image above or head over to /Film to see a sampling of what to expect in the tribute to good old Bill. As someone who has just become acquainted with Gallery 1988 thanks in large part to The Golden Briefcase (the fantastic film related podcast of FirstShowing.net) I can tell you that this is some of the most innovative artwork created by people who love certain films probably more than we’ll ever know.
Sure would be nice to live close to the Gallery and see this in person but I guess electronic versions are almost as good (thank you Internets!). Let me ask you. Anyone live close to Gallery 1988 (on Melrose and La Brea) and planning to check out this or other upcoming exhibits?? Anyone been and want to rave or share stories??
