Interview…’Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Star Astrid Bergès-Frisbey

The fourth film in the wildly popular and successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is due to be released on DVD/BD next month.  To help drum up some excitement for it Go,See,Talk got to speak with one of the beautiful mermaid syrens of the film. Taking some time out from her whirlwind of popularity, the lovely Ms. Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (who played Syrena) talked about becoming part of the Pirates phenomenon. What follows is the transcription of my all too brief interview with her yesterday. For such a young actress to be thrown into such a beloved franchise she’s taking it all surprisingly in stride. Still not sure she’s dreaming all of this but very much…

Sweet (4 Minute) Trailer…'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'

Earlier this year the red band trailer for the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hit the web. It surprised most everyone and received quite a lot of praise (even so far as to inspire a brilliant parody trailer). As it’s one of our most anticipated films this Winter we at G-S-T decided to ignore anything and everything TGwtDT, taking a firm stance to severely stay in the dark until its release. Now I had heard about the 8 minute trailer and as such chose to ignore it. Buuuut at the screening of Moneyball on Tuesday (review up Friday), the film was headed by the same 8 minute trailer I was hoping…

The State of Netflix: From the Mouth of Founder/CEO Reed Hastings

Seems like Netfilx has been in a rough patch as of late. First the rate changes, now the split from Starz Entertainment, and now a rebranding?? We already know that Netflix will continue to stream movies (though they’ll be short 1000+ titles when their contracted Starz catalog agreement expires in Feb 2012) but now there’s a name change as well as the addition of video games to their library?? Sounds like there’s a lot more going on under the hood so it prompts us to wonder what does the future hold for this mighty giant killer? Well, in a surprise email this morning I, and every other person with a Netflix account,…

    G-S-T Review…Straw Dogs

Let’s get the first bits out of the way; Straw Dogs is a remake and like any remake it’s all about going beyond what was established with the original and how can the basic story be improved/retooled for a newer audience. Usually I do my homework before seeing any remake however I just couldn’t find the time. So while I may have the luxury of going in unbiased I still wish I’d seen Peckinpah’s film just so I could better grade this nose-dive. While I can’t compare apples to apples for you fans of the original, beyond wondering about the necessity of this remake, I bet you’re morbidly curious to know if this is…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Things I Never Understood About 'Star Wars'

For the umpteenth time Star Wars has be re-released to the masses but for the first time ever it is available on Blu Ray…well sort of. In the SW universe there’s a fan base that has an absolute split contention about as polar as the Dark and Light side of the Force. It’s between fans of the original trilogy where half claim the ‘Theatrical Version’ is best, the other half of that fan base for some unknown reason really does enjoy the “Special Enhanced Editions”. Where do I stand? Easy, I’m in the first camp. I’m part of the millions of fans who were won over with the version that George claims…

    Sweet (and Spooky) Trailer…'The Awakening'

These days you just don’t get a good looking and eerie old school ghost story. Bu those up for a scare, The Awakening, from the look of it, is more in line with Del Toro’s The Orphanage (or even The Devil’s Backbone) as opposed to the shock and awesome found in something like Insidious. That said, I’m totally on board with the slow boat approach and I’m sort of getting a The Shining vibe but maybe that’s just me. So turn down the lights, turn up the sound and have a look at the trailer thanks to the heads up from First Showing.net. Rebecca Hall plays the story’s skeptical “ghost hunter’ who has a pension for…

Roundtable Discussion with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ′ VFX Supervisor Ben Snow

Ben Snow is one of the ILM Visual Effects Supervisors and with an outstanding resume (you should just check out his IMDb page or see his bio at the bottom of this post), his latest work on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides gave life and depth to the beautiful but deadly mermaids. Go, See, Talk and other movie sites were invited to participate in an exclusive (and very lengthy) round table discussion. Ben had lots to offer about his passion, his profession and personal tastes in his creative process. Have a look at what he had to say…(sorry no audio but G-S-T’s questions are in Orange)

For those of you who grew up loving and living Disney films in the 80s/90s The Lion King probably holds a special place in your memory. Trailer…'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I'

Not long ago we posted the very first teaser for the final film in the Twilight Saga (well Part I anyway). As Mrs. Go,See,Talk is a rabid fan (still short of being a Twi-hard though) this is really for her. Hmm, between Edward and Elvis she seems to have this strange fascination with dead guys…Anyway, for your brooding enjoyment here is the official trailer for The Twilight Saga’s Breaking Dawn – Part I:   Past the first film (which I was surprised it wasn’t the total nose dive I was expecting) the series for me had been about as cold as the Cullens themselves. But as I’ve been told the…
