Vrroom, vroom!! It looks like we’re getting a truckload of Pixar magic this week and the latest offering form everyone’s favorite stateside animation house comes in the form of animated cars. Yesterday we had a post featuring a gorgeous screen shot and a teaser poster which was awesome enough. Today we get an oh so sweet teaser trailer and it really makes me smile (FYI, the trailer released about a month ago that was more like an “announcement” trailer). So enough stalling, let’s hit the gas shall we?
In this sequel to 2006’s Cars, we follow Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater as they set out on an international adventure going up against the world’s fastest cars. For more info, here is the official synopsis from Pixar:
Star racecar Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater take their friendship to exciting new places in ‘Cars 2′ when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.
Also for those of you who missed it below we have some conceptual artwork…it’s neat to see the progression between the early stages and this trailer isn’t it?
While I would’t put the first Cars in my top 5 Pixar films list, I’m really getting more and more excited for this and love the international angle of the story. The North By Northwest inspired plot is a lot more intriguing than the heartfelt (but slower paced) story in the original film. Cars 2 will be presented in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters next year on June 24th, 2011. As is the case with all Pixar films, I’ll be there for sure!! But I’ll put it to you. Is everyone up for another adventure with Lightning and Mater?? Does the fact this will roar to life on IMAX 3D sound good to anyone else??

Like you Marc, Cars wouldn’t be in my top 5 Pixar list; the first one was okay, the second looks pretty interesting though. And it’s really cool to see the early stages in the artwork, those guys are so talented!
P.S. Hope you enjoyed the Pacino event in Dallas:)

Pixar does what more studios need to do…focus on the story. But you’re totally right they are VERY talented.
Oh and I didn’t get Pacino tickets…I am so bummed:( Looks like you got to see something extraordinary. Would have loved to see Lily Rabe hold her own against Pacino. How was the rest of your trip?
