Before we ever get Zombieland 2, Ruben Fleischer will treat us to the sweetest noir since LA Confidential or The Untouchables. Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. Like Elliot Ness in his fearless pursuit of Al Capone, a small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling) come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Enjoy!
Sporting an top-drawer cast, Fleischer’s Gangster Squad stars Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi and Sean Penn as famed mob boss Mickey Cohen. A departure from Fleischer’s previous films to say the least but this looks sweet. Right now there’ no release date set but rumor has it that Warner Bros.’ Gangster Squad will hit theaters this Fall on September 7th, 2012. What do you think??

I should be more excited for this, but despite the cast and director and general tone– this leaves me cold. Maybe there’s a good reason for The Untouchables to be reimagined, but I’m not feeling it somehow.
