Yes I think that using “sweet” is the perfect superlative to describe anything with Emma Stone. If you’re in the mood form something charming, uplifting and heartfelt, Dreamworks’ newest film, The Help looks to have you covered. Just the right change of pace for all the comic films coming down the pike this Summer. Enjoy!
Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, Skeeter (Stone) is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends’ lives — and a small Mississippi town — upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen (Oscar-nominee Viola Davis), Skeeter’s best friend’s housekeeper, is the first to open up — to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community.
The Help is directed by Tate Taylor and stars an impressive cast including Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek and Cicely Tyson. Kind of reminiscent of the made for TV film The Long Walk Home (that also starred Sissy Spacek btw) but with some humor to help the segregation/racism issues go down a little easier. I’m intrigued by the nostalgia but hope the issues are represented fairly and not forgettable.
Dreamworks brings this delighful looking tale to theaters this Summer on August 12th, 2011. How does this look to you? Anyone interested in this yet??

This does indeed look ‘sweet’ and uplifting, possibly a feelgood movie? Think I’m going to see it, looks like a light, fun thing.

This looks good, there are so many dark movies out there so it’s nice to see one that’s uplifting and poignant for a change. I almost didn’t recognize Emma Stone here, it proves this girl’s got range. Yeah, I might check this one out.
