We at GST are ever the fan of Laika‘s animated films. If you’ve seen ParaNorman and Boxtrolls you know they have such a distinct look – one as odd as it is captivating. In a world where CG has dominated so much of the entertainment world, it’s amazing to see the work that this company still does with practical tools, models, and effects. They share a lot in common with digital animators (this is stop-frame after all) but the tangible element, gritty and wonky though it may be, adds so much depth and character to each Laika feature. If you haven’t been keeping up with Kubo, enjoy this amazing looking trailer.…

G-S-T Review…Mad Max: Fury Road
Ah, to ride through the gates of Valhalla, shiny and chrome. Tis the dream of any action junkie, right? That wouldn’t be a bad way to go. If you haven’t seen Mad Max: Fury Road yet, you have probably been just too busy or, like me, tied up with a new baby. But we’ll let you in on a little secret…it’s spectacular! It’s also everything every critic, everywhere, has said about it. Now the film is really something special, but even more remarkable is that at 70 years of age, George Miller is still making some of the best entertainment out there. He not only raised the action bar, he broke it,…

G-S-T Top 10 – Most Bankable Hollywood Actresses
Editor’s Note: Go,See,Talk presents this post from our guest contributing writer and friend of GST from across the pond. Dan Stephens is the managing editor and founder of Top10Films.co.uk. Not one to muck about with editorials and irreverent news articles, Dan and his fellow contributors hammer out awesome and definitive Top 10 lists. So have a look at his latest concoction and we implore you to check out some of this other stuff. I was asked recently by a friend to name my top 10 favorite actresses. I couldn’t answer. It wasn’t because there were so many great ones to choose from (like picking my all time number one movie), it was because I couldn’t think of one. The ones…

G-S-T Review…Prometheus
Prometheus, industrious and monstrously ambitious, deserves to be seen divorced from hype and hubris. Admittedly, that’s scarcely a small feat. Few films released in 2012 carry with them the massive weight of expectations which Prometheus bears on its shoulders. That’s just how things go for any production intent on serving as the precursor to cinematic iconography; in the case of Prometheus, that’s Alien, Ridley Scott’s 1979 science fiction/horror masterpiece. How does even a master like Scott top one of his best works more than thirty years after the fact? Put simply, he doesn’t have to, pedigree or not. His film only need exist on its individual merits, and happily Prometheus, a beautiful and thoughtful and flawed creation story, very…

“The CineMagic 8-Ball” – In Theaters 6/08/12
When so many movies are released each weekend and trailers often seem better than the movie itself, what should one do? In this precarious situation, we consult the The CineMagic 8-Ball (TM) to help us see through the nebulous marketing haze. Doing so just might save us all a disheartening trip to the cinema and spare us unnecessarily springing for $7 popcorn. See what the 8-Ball says about this week’s releases… ——————————————————————————————————————————————- PROMETHEUS A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Ridley…

G-S-T Review…Snow White and the Huntsman
There’s little ingenious, clever, or new about a dark fairy tale; the grisly and the horrific have been hallmarks of such folkloric narratives since the Brothers Grimm put pen to paper two hundred years ago. In that same respect, there’s nothing overtly offensive about them either, at least not at face value, as a veneer of darkness in contemporary fairy tale fare can just be interpreted as a dedication to tradition. Faithfulness to either tone or detail does not comprise one of Snow White and the Huntsman‘s glaring flaws, however; for just shy of two hours, the film tries gamely to assert itself as worthy sword-and-sorcery filmmaking. At times, it…

Sweet Trailer…'Snow White & The Hunstman'
The 2012 cinematic marketing campaigns are in full vigor it seems, boasting trailers almost as epic as the films they’re advertising. The AMAZING trailer for Prometheus hit on Saturday (which funny enough also stars Charlize Theron) and hitting just as hard is this one for Rupert Sanders’ Snow White & the Huntsman. Last week we showcased 4 featurettes that briefly showed a behind the scenes look at the film as well as bits of new footage. Now this 2 minute and 35 trailer puts it all together for something that will hopefully help kick start your week! Enjoy… Snow White & the Huntsman (#SWATH for short) star Kristin Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron and features the talents of Ian McShane,…

Sweet Trailer…'Prometheus'
We don’t usually post on the weekend but as this is a trailer for one of G-S-T’s three most anticipated films of 2012 (and from SIR Ridley Scott no less) we are happy to bend the rules just a little. For your viewing pleasure, behold, the first FULL trailer for the quasi-Alien prequel Prometheus… When it was first reported that Ridely would be returning to this universe it provoked both cheers and jitters from fans the world over. Most everyone on the planet would undoubtedly love to see the series righted after the recent disappointing and insulting installments. However, going back to the beginning is always worrisome because there’s a chance that, even with Ridely on board,…
