Jon & Josh Baker to Pursue ‘The Blackbird’ As Feature Film

We’ve been a fan of Jon & Josh Baker since we met them in 2016. By a lucky encounter, we hosted the Q&A of their stunning debut effort, Kin from Lionsgate. They have talent that can’t be measured and the world is blessed with what their creative minds can offer. This year, they collaborated with ace spy author Thomas Ray on the whirlwind spy thriller “The Blackbird“.   Surprise to no one, the book has become the bestselling title by Ray and has reached bestseller status in its genre for the distributor. So it was only a matter of time before the gritty world they built would/could be brought to screens…

Interview…Barry Burns on Mogwai, Signature Sounds, and Never Reading the Manuals

When it comes to one-of-a-kind sounds, look no further than the Scotland-based, post-rock band, Mogwai. They hit your ear drums with a one-two punch of style and experimentation, and always take you on a true musical journey. We first stumbled on them while I was visiting Japan in 2006. Maybe it was the reference to Gremlins that caught our eye, but once we heard “Auto Rock” we were hooked. Over the years, they have lent their skill and sonic textures to film, shows, documentaries and rocked out plenty of stadiums. In 2016 however, they really outdid themselves with the score to Kin by our friends Jonathan & Josh Baker. Not content…

Hey everyone! Hope each of you are safe, sound, and enjoying this global pandemic. What a time to be living in, huh? While there are several things you could do to keep your spirits up in this time of a global crisis (reading, knitting, amateur cage fighting), we have one entertaining suggestion: listen to a 90-minute conversation with Australian-born filmmakers Jonathan & Josh Baker. When it comes to cinema, these guys know their stuff! We’ve gotten to know the duo over the years, and have tried to help spread the word of their film, Kin, whenever and however we can. Seriously, check it out. The two joined us on a…

A Decade Full of Memories: The Life and Times of Go,See,Talk!

Hey, GST fans. Today is a special day in Internet history. I’m proud to share with you that it’s been a full decade since I started this site! For this anniversary/editorial post, I wanted to write more than a catch-all piece recapping highlights from the previous year. Well, there is some of that below, but I hope this look back can also offer a way forward – tips along with lessons learned – for aspiring film journalists or hobbyists like myself. In a way, I’m speaking to me in 2009, and on that note, I can’t help think of Christopher Lloyd’s famous line from Back to the Future, “My God. Has…

Attention: CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. Winners have been notified. Thanks for your interest in KIN. ———————————————————————————————————————————— Last month, Jonathan & Josh Baker’s film Kin hit theaters. It’s an amazing story, and you don’t often see this level of quality from first-time directors. To be fair, the duo have a lot of experience in video advertising, but this is their first feature-length effort. In short, it is stunning, and has quickly become our favorite film of the Summer. Check out our spoiler-free interview with them here. We were thrilled to see an advance screening and host their Q&A when they were in Dallas. As part of the press tour, Lionsgate created exclusive posters that…

    G-S-T Review…KIN

As cinemas and studios close the books on Summer, it’s a good bet film fans weren’t expecting many more wows on the big screen. Well, if you need a surefire thrill-ride, look no further than Lionsgate’s Kin – the feature-length debut from Australian born, Los Angeles-based directors Jonathan & Josh Baker. The duo craft their first narrative feature, Kin, based on their 2014 sci-fi short, “Bag Man” (check it out here). They already have accomplished careers in marketing/advertising (and the film is full of beautifully gritty shots they no doubt honed in the last 15 years), but I’m positive they’re going to take off. A lot can be said for these artists making…

Video Interview…’KIN’ Writers/Directors Jonathan & Josh Baker on Grounded Sci-Fi and the “Anti-Blockbuster”

Jonathan & Josh Baker are Australian born, Los Angeles based directors. While Kin marks their feature-directing debut, the brothers are established commercial directors, and are part of an acclaimed roster of directors at David Fincher‘s production company, RESET. The Bakers have made a name for themselves telling fanciful stories with a grounded and honest flair. Their naturalistic imagery embraces the bizarre and creates a detailed world that’s often both beautiful and imaginative. The duo craft their first narrative feature, Kin, based on their 2014 sci-fi short, “Bag Man” (check it out here). Throughout film, they keep the tension high, and, in a word, it is pulse-pounding. Their narrative is expertly…
