    Sweet Trailer…Ang Lee’s ‘Gemini Man’

This year, film fans will be treated to what will likely be the biggest movies of all time: Avengers: Endgame, and Episode IX. So let’s try to hype another film that doesn’t have a built-in audience, shall we? How about this one? Ang Lee, the visionary director of Life of Pi (we just adore that film) has teamed with Will Smith to give us one helluva sci-fi adventure. Have a look at the first trailer featuring, aside from a whole lot of explosions, a de-aged Smith. Wow. We’re excited!  Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued…

    The Oscars: Post-Script

Strange that days after this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, I feel like I have little to say about it. As it happens– as it usually does– there’s plenty to be said about the honors meted out to the slender sample size of 2012’s “best”, but dishing about the process is exhausting and nearly futile in the tidal wave of faux-analysis that invariably follows every Oscar presentation. (And actual, respectable analysis. Not all analyses are made equal.) That’s to say nothing of the baggage that we all bring to the AMPAS’s annual self-congratulatory shindig and the conflicting frustration and indifference many of us feel toward them; put another way, it’s hard…

The 85th Annual Academy Awards – Full Winners List

Last night, the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony went off without a hitch and aside from some real shockers (like Ang Lee beating out Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino winning for best screenplay) it was an immensely delightful few hours. Despite what some think about Seth MacFarlane he really brought some life to the evening replete with some crass but still witty jokes, classic zingers, sock puppets as well as song and dance numbers that just made you smile. Like him or not we, and the crowd at the BigFanBoy/GoSeeTalk Oscar screening at The Angelika Film Center Dallas, thought he was a treat. But he was only the first in a…

Informative Hour Long Filmmaking Master Class with Ang Lee

From the tweets and posts and finally the glowing review of Ang Lee‘s latest film, it should be clear that we at GoSeeTalk loved Life of Pi (check out our review here). The adaptation of the popular Yann Martel novel is a shining example of why we go to cinemas in the first place and is a reminder of what film/cinema is, can and should be. While I won’t get into much more lengthy praise here, I instead turn you to this video below where Lee discusses the process of making the visual/narrative benchmark that is Life of Pi. It’s a landmark film that really pushes storytelling to new heights and amazing to hear him…

    G-S-T Review…Life of Pi

Editor’s note: GoSeeTalk is trying something new with this review of Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. Since there’s so much to enjoy Marc and Bill split up the review to focus on its two greatest strengths. Bill addresses the narrative structure/success of Life of Pi while Marc tackles praising its technical/visual achievements.  In Ang Lee’s latest film Life of Pi, an impressive adaptation of Yann Martel’s popular novel of the same name, a young man, Pi (Suraj Sharma), who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor…a fearsome Bengal tiger. Though the premise of Life of Pi might…

Ohhh, Look…Ang Lee Talks Technical Marvels In 'Life of Pi'

The year is quickly wrapping up and one of the many anticipated films gracing theaters this Fall/Winter is Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. At one time the film, an adaptation of Yann Maretel‘s novel of the same name, was thought to be unfilmmable. Well it just goes to show that when an experienced and visionary director gets their hands on a projects (and this time with lots of help from an equally talented effects team) nothing is impossible. Basically, you can lock in your Oscar picks now. Life of Pi is going home with a boatload of golden statues next February…well, as long Lincoln and Argo don’t sweep the awards…

Actor Suraj Sharma Shares His Experiences Working On Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi'

For those who don’t know much about the upcoming Ang Lee film Life of Pi (or the Yann Martel novel that inspired it), it’s the kind of theater going experience that words just can’t describe. Sure there’s a synopsis, and that’s what the film is about. But what the film is…that’s something else entirely and left entirely up to the viewer to decide. Last week this one of a kind film was opened the New York Film Festival and first time actor Suraj Sharma (who gives an truly amazing and riveting performance) spoke at the Q&A following the premier. Here’s what he had to say about his experience and journey making this one of a…

    Sweet Trailer…'Life of Pi'

I have no opinion whatsoever on Life of Pi, the novel by French Canadian author Yann Martel; I haven’t read it in the decade-and-change since its 2001 publication. But that might change with the release of the trailer for Ang Lee’s upcoming adaptation of the book. Quick reaction– it looks absolutely gorgeous. Have a look below: Breathtaking visuals aren’t anything new to Lee’s cinema– he brings his brand of ocular magic to every film he shoots, if you ask me– but some of the images in here are pretty startling even coming from him. Watching the footage, there are a number of shots here that evoke urgency, wonder, fear, and awe,…
