    G-S-T Quick 5 – Movies I've Warmed Up To…

OK, here I am, humbly walking on the ground where I, like broken glass, laid out all the bad things I said about these movies. In the past I might have either not been in the right mindset for these films or maybe not been able to comprehend what they were trying to do. While not all of these are masterpieces (some fans would argue that one of them is) the films on this list now get my approval. I now feel much more of a connection with these films and honestly enjoy quite a bit whereas before I would say flat-out “I hated it”. Ah, the folly of youth… ——————————————————————————————————————————————— Boiler…

5 (Hypothetical) Ways Studios Could Offset High Ticket Prices for Movie Goers…

Sure seems like going to the movies these days almost requires one to take out a loan. While everyone, I figure, is now aware of the increase in 3D ticket prices we can safely say that all across the board, movie tickets and going to the theater just doesn’t cost what it used to. Further, what’s the drive to see something in cinemas when it’ll be out on-demand or to own in less than 90 days? So that got me thinking. Just how much money would be “too much money” to the average movie goer? And what could be done to keep people going to the theater instead of waiting for it…

Ohhh, look…20th Century Fox: 75th Anniversary Editions

I was looking at IMDb this morning and I found something pretty cool. In honor of 20th Century Fox’s 75th Anniversary, they are releasing some very special editions of their more popular movies. Unfortunately it looks like they’re just bundling 2 or 3 movies that are quasi similar and selling them as 75th Anniversary Editions. However here’s where the “cool” part comes in. Go to the site, and enter for a chance to win their grand prize of $75,000 with a little scratch off game. If you don’t win, you can again tomorrow and the next day and so on until the contest is over. Second, and to me the coolest part…

Random Film Thought of the Day…03.29.10

This is an interesting way to start off the work week. It was just about 1 month ago when the 82nd Academy Awards came to a close and we began our Monday blogging and gossiping about what went on the night before. One of the best parts of the evening, although it was a surprise to no one, was Christoph Waltz talking the Oscar for Best Supporting Role. One of the very few awards that the QT masterpiece (yes, masterpiece) received all night. Anyway as luck would have it, I was on the way to work this morning and I took a different way to get here. Sometimes traffic can be a blessing.…

Off the Netflix Queue…'The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day'

Being a huge fan of the original cult classic, I should have been excited to see the loooong rumored and even longer in-development sequel. Since the fallout of Troy Duffy, as depicted in Overnight (which is somewhat of a smear campaign), it seemed like no one would take a chance on Duffy and without significant funding the sequel would never have happened. But like the little engine that could, Duffy got the sequel that no one thought would see the light of day made. And the outcome? In short it was sooo much better than I was expecting from the dreadful looking trailers. Well I’d say I’m eating my words.

    Timothy Dalton's latest: 'The Tourist'

Well this is a good way to end the week if you ask me. From Screen Rant, we get news of one of my favorite (and yes Ruth, underrated) actors joining a talented cast for an upcoming role which sounds like a winner already. In The Tourist, an American (played byJohnny Depp) travels to Italy after a heartbreak  and meets up with a beautiful woman (played by Angelina Jolie). While their encounter appears accidental, it really is more deliberate than it lets on and the two get caught up in some dicey espionage. Does this sound similar to her characters in Wanted and Mr & Mrs Smith to anyone else? So…

    Sweet Trailer…’The Mechanic’

Here’s something I wasn’t really interested in until now. Jason Statham is going to star in The Mechanic which is the remake of the classic Charles Bronson flick of the same name. But what is a “Mechanic” you ask? Well I can tell you it’s not A. a crooked card dealer B. someone who repairs your car or C. someone who tinkers with small clocks. It is, infact, someone who is an expert assassin but one who has no current affiliation with any Armed Forces. Basically a quasi-sophisticated “hit man”. Liken a “Mechanic” to a “Cleaner” if you will. I love how crafty and ambiguous these monikers can be. Anyway, I…

Does Anyone Want To Watch My DVD/BD Collection? Because I Sure Can't!

How many of you movie fans have ever had this happen? You get the urge to see a movie you own, you think about it for a bit, you walk to your library and then just stare blankly at your choices, unable to make a decision. I do this quite a lot but it isn’t because I have (totally not bragging) over 500 DVD/Blu-Ray titles staring back at me. It is solely because I just can’t find the time to watch what I really want to watch. Now that’s what truly gets me sometimes. I mean, if you have this wonderful assortment of toys just dying to be played with, wouldn’t you want…

    Off the Netflix Queue…'TRON'

Let’s just get past the fact that I haven’t seen TRON before now. I know, I know, it’s a staple, it’s a classic, it’s a (insert any number of nostalgia driven praises) but I just hadn’t seen it before. So there we are. Now despite seeing some glimpses of it while channel surfing over the years and the references to it in both The Simpsons (sorry couldn’t find the English clip) and  The Family Guy (or this one – also in a foreign language) I was none the wiser to “Flynn’s Arcade” and those awesome “light cycles”. Some would say I was missing out, but I had my own movies to keep my…
