People Like Us is a very compelling story of two strangers drawn together by a mutual secret. While both of these strangers are on the brink of an emotional meltdown it seems finding one another might be the key to finding themselves. The film takes us through an emotional journey of loss, deep-rooted pain and then a powerful sense of redemption. People Like Us is a dramedy which leans a little more toward drama than comedy. It’s hard not feel a deep emotional connection to the characters in this film. Sam (Chris Pine – Star Trek, Unstoppable) is a salesman on the proverbial ropes who begrudgingly returns to Los Angeles when…

G-S-T Review…Ted
Ted, the first feature length enterprise by Family Guy brainchild Seth MacFarlane, very blatantly wears its creator’s proclivities on its sleeve. That alone should provide anybody with all the information needed to decide if the film is worth their time or not. Do you enjoy having relentless pop culture references and recreations fed to you intravenously and without context? Are you a fan of clumsy, insecure, and hopelessly lame attempts at shock humor and over-played novelty gags? Do you mind that the Connecticut-born MacFarlane apparently can’t produce locational New England accents that differ from one another whatsoever? Then you’re in luck; Ted may be your Citizen Kane. For everybody else,…

After some thought I think I have one remedy for all you heat riddled film fans in the form of 10 incendiary and bombastic action titles. These flicks serve aren’t like any of Christopher Nolan’s intellectual roller-coaster rides, but rather fun and fast ways to beat the heat in the cool confines of a theater (or home theater). What follows is a slightly personal but hopefully an they’ll serve as a diversion from the great wall of heat that hits us hard this time of year, especially here in Dallas; we’re just a week into Summer…

Sweet Trailer…'Total Recall'
The final trailer for the Len Wiseman remake of Total Recall hit the web last night right as we were at a Press screening of The Amazing Spider-Man (review up real soon) so we’re just now getting to it…you’ve probably already seen it (and all the nods to the original) but here it is again. Still not sold on it, but maybe it’ll be more fun in the theater…enjoy! The new adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” takes cues from highly stylized big budgets sci-films as you’re bound to see bits of Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, Minority Report just to name…

Sweet UK Trailer…'Looper'
The marketing for Looper, the time-travel based action thriller from Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brother’s Bloom), has gone from a very cut and dry tumblr blog, to an intriguing shot of the awesome looking time machine to a full-on action packed trailer. Well, following suit comes this equally charged UK trailer…if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s really worth checking out. Enjoy! In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun,…

Next 'Bourne' Film Might Offer A Renner/Damon Team-Up
While we’re not big on rumors, especially since the 4th Bourne film isn’t even out yet, this possibility seemed too good not to bring to the table. Empire recently featured a post to give a little behind the scenes info on the future of The Bourne franchise. In short, it sounds quite awesome as writer/director Tony Gilroy has things mapped out pretty thoroughly, also we like the Shakespearean approach he takes to explaining his thought process… “If you think of the first three Bourne films as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, then we’re showing you Elsinore. You thought you were seeing something you weren’t. What if there’s a much larger story? What if Treadstone wasn’t the…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Epic'
In Blue Sky Studios‘ upcoming film Epic a teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil rages on. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world — and ours. If this sounds sort of like a certain forest based adventure that starts with Fern and ends with gully, lets just put a little faith in Blue Sky that they’ve got something better to offer than a CG remake. Suffer one advert and enjoy this marvelously vibrant first look at Epic. Based on William Joyce’s children’s book known as The Leaf Men, Chris Wedge (Ice…

Sweet Trailer…'Hara-Kiri: Death Of A Samurai'
Takashi Miike isn’t known for pulling his punches and his films aren’t for the faint of heart. In 2010, the man who gave us Ichi The Killer and Audition did a 180 and gave us one of the most surprising remakes in the last few years with his version of 13 Assassins. Well it’s good to see he’s still got the samurai bug and this time he’s giving us his version of Masaki Kobayashi’s 1962 film Harakiri (Criterion Files write up coming soon). Based on the trailer, it looks like we can expect another solid effort…and this time in 3D. Man I sure could have used 3D for that 45 minute…
