    Sweet Trailer…'Thor: The Dark World'

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe: Phase Two continues with Iron Man 3 (which hits theaters this May) but there’s one superhero we’re even more excited to see again. After The Avengers, some may have forgotten we still had a few more stand-alone character sequels to come from the Marvel Universe on the big screen but this Fall we’ll see the return of the Odin-son in Thor: The Dark World. The first trailer dropped and this pretty (excuse the pun) dark looking sequel is already living up to our expectations. Here’s hoping that the follow up to the 2011 hit shows us that lightning strikes twice for the God of Thunder…enjoy! Thor battles to save all the Nine Realms…

Sweet Trailer…Keanu Reeves' 'Man of Tai Chi'

We’ve heard about Keanu Reeves‘ pet project Man of Tai Chi for a while now but aside from a few set shots (and news about the film’s cutting edge camera work) very little production news has surfaced. This weekend the first trailer for the film dropped and while the quality isn’t that great it still raises eyebrows and pulses. From the looks of it Man of Tai Chi will be about a martial arts tournament set in Beijing and stars Tiger Chen (veteran stuntman). The plot is very vague as IMDb only gives us this bit of info: “In Beijing, a young martial artist’s skill places him in position to…

Say Hello To Your New Neighbors: LOOK Cinemas and Dolby ATMOS Come To Dallas, TX

To many individuals out there, going to the movies (as casual an outing as it may be) is an experience that is both revered and awe-inspiring. Further, it is, and has always been, a form of entertainment based on complicated and calculated technologies coming together in unison for a singular event. Film, both the medium and its exhibition, is only as good as the sum of the visual and auditory aspects; a film’s most tangible components. Together they can create fireworks, but when one lacks, so too does the other. To put it simply, you don’t notice when things are working well, only when they aren’t. Sure we pay money, top dollar in fact,…

    Sweet Trailer…'R.I.P.D.'

While it may not be apparent to the average film fan, there are a lot of movies out there that are adapted from comics. Sure everyone knows Superman, Spider-Man and those properties, but now people are becoming more familiar with off-beat characters Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim as well as the likes of RED and the MIB. For those of you new to this table, R.I.P.D. is a short-lived and obscure but still popular Dark Horse Comics mini-series. At first glance it looks like an even-handed mix of Men In Black and Hellblazer (aka Constantine) but still looks like it’s got the legs and wacky fun to keep it from being a face plant like Cowboys &…

    R.I.P. Roger Ebert

As a kid, I grew up in a house filled with love and reverence for film. Some of my earliest memories were watching the old Adam West Batman show. But before it came on there was always this show about these two guys sitting in a theater discussing (and arguing) about movies. Yes, it was Siskel & Ebert. I was too young to know what movies they were talking about as well as understand their criticisms, but I always understood and loved when they gave their trademark “two thumbs up”. Even at 5 years of age, what really resonated with me were the times when Roger Ebert would throw an arm…

G-S-T Review…The Place Beyond the Pines

Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is a viscerally pensive film and an enthralling multi-generational drama. As equally well-crafted as his highly received Blue Valentine, Pines is a complex and engrossing film that takes a look at legacies and what we leave behind for our kids. Further it shows us that those legacies, whether we want them or not, can sometimes make life choices for us without our say in the matter. It’s an ever-escalating, multilayered, emotionally bold familial drama that has all the makings of an instant classic. Cianfrance’s sophomore effort tells a sobering story about love and family and further one that despite the best of intentions may all end in a dismal trail of…

Sweet (Red Band) Trailer…'Only God Forgives'

Things have been really good for Ryan Gosling over the last decade. After a slew of hits including The Notebook, Drive, The Ides of March, the upcoming film The Place Beyond the Pines and even fluffier fares like Crazy Stupid Love, Gosling looks to continue his hit streak with Only God Forgives. Re-teaming with G-S-T favorite Nicolas Winding Refn this follow up to Drive looks like it’ll be another stunning film…and why wouldn’t it be? Regardless of an exceptionally talented filmmaker like Refn behind the camera, Gosling is that rare breed of actor who can take just about any role. Further, his career has continued to skyrocket because of the types of…
