This may fly in the face of anime buffs around the world but I just don’t care for Akira. Conversely I am just so enamored with Katsuhiro Ôtomo‘s other famous property Steamboy that I am nearly at a loss for words to describe it. Sure it is not as iconic as Akira but to me, this is the superior effort. Aside from the work of Studio Ghibli, this is probably the most gorgeous animated film I’ve ever seen. Steamboy really delivers the goods and ends on such a high note that any minor issues are all but forgotten in the awe of the finale. Masterpieces don’t come along very often…

The Wait Is Over…'The Expendables' In Theaters This Friday!!
Hot Damn! The action event of the decade is nearly upon us and all that waiting is just about over. Off the Shelf…'I Heart Huckabees'
I Heart Huckabees is a odd-ball movie to say the least. With scenes that end just as abruptly as they begin the film is filled with heavy off-kilter humor. Simply stated, the comedy here is both unexpectedly subtle and rampantly uproarious. Certain scenes just amaze you as they were so off the wall that actually worked and mostly because you didn’t see it coming. Admittedly, it may be too out there and I agree it’s not for everyone. It is slow at times but Huckabees is still a film you can be happy to have seen just because the characters are so damn funny.

News hit recently of Daniel Craig being cast for the remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Part of me said, “hell yes!“, while another part of me was lost for words. At first I thought this was a good move and would be glad to see Craig in something new and different since the Bond series is on perpetual hold. But the more I think about this I’m not wild about it. I don’t see the point of casting someone so high profile when their character is far from the main focus of the film. G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Michael Keaton Roles
Whenever I hear the name Michael Keaton, I immediately think of 3 things: Batman, Beetlejuice, and Clean and Sober. Three completely different roles but three extremely complex roles…especially when you think of his humble beginnings as a stand-up comic. You won’t see Adam Sandler playing a super-hero (let’s just hope not). You won’t find Jerry Seinfeld playing a “bio-exorcist” and you won’t hear of Ray Romano playing the dramatic lead as a recovering drug addict. So it’s with a very varied resume that Keaton finds himself spanning a career that, although a little slow as of late, will probably never die. And I’d bet on that…especially when you do work for…

Well the more I hear and see about Comic-Con 10, the more bummed that I was unable to attend.
