For every trilogy that finishes to tremendous audience approval and long-lasting endearment, there are countless more that don’t succeed as well. In my opinion, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones are all great stories that finish in 3 acts and should sit atop a pedestal labeled “This is how you do a trilogy right”. I know there was a 4th Indiana Jones film but I don’t consider ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ a legitimate Indiana Jones film (in fact I try to deny it’s existence actually…it was just bad). Whether planned as a trilogy or be it a film whose sequels just happen to work…

Sweet Trailer…'The Hangover' Teaser
I was looking on First Showing and saw this hilarious trailer (teaser actually) for The Hangover. I won’t bother trying to describe the plot as its all summed up in the trailer. This particular trailer is very well done and I think this film will be a winner, so I’m really looking forward to it. Mark your calendars for June 5th, but for now, enjoy this teaser… P.S. For a better quality trailer head on over to First Showing and take a look!!

Scary Movies: Is There Anything That Isn't Trite These Days?
I’m not one for scary movies. Its not that I am afraid to see them, its just that they bore me. They seem even more predictable than a romantic comedy. Usually, I think I have a good “Spider Sense” when it comes to those types of films. When I see a trailer, about 95% of the time, I can say with certainty, “Well that’s gonna suck”…and it does. After that, I am also usually on par with how film does at the box office as well. Aside from the trailers (whose ‘magic’ I wrote about in a recent post), the #1 indicator which almost confirms that the movie will bomb…

Hugh Jackman in Japan
Fresh from the Oscars, Hugh is in Japan promoting Australia, and having lots of fun doing it apparently. Here’s a clip from Waratte ii tomo! (It’s fine to laugh) a daily talk show that comes on at lunch. Trust me, no Japanese is required, just watch and laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-K8gtYuwj8&hl=en&fs=1

The Trailer Industry: The Contemporary ‘Pied Piper’
As anyone who sits in a theater watches a 2:30 trailer before their movie starts can attest to, the Trailer Industry is nothing short of pure magic. It can simultaneously whip an unsuspecting crowd into a frenzy, or repel even the most patient and trustworthy fan of any genre or series. Whether or not its a predictable trailer or something new, for that small duration of time even lamest film imaginable could be spun to look like the second coming of Christ, or vice-versa. Sometimes after seeing a crappy movie which looked good in the trailer, I have to ask myself, “Did it happen again? Did I just get led…

Terminator: Uncertainty
That’s what I’d call the newest T-film. I don’t really know what to think about this movie. For me, growing up with T2 was one of the first “mind blowing” films I’d experienced and that set the bar waaaay up. I never thought it could be topped nor did I think they would attempt another Terminator film…I was right and wrong respectively. Although T2 was tough act to follow, I didn’t not like Rise of the Machines, nor did I think the film was sacrilegious, it just felt more like a TV series than a follow up to its predecessor (The Sarah Connor Chronicles seems to follow in the vein…

Oscar Extravaganza…well just some quick thoughts anyway
Well, all I can say is WOW…That was an Oscar Show. In the past few years I’d actually given up watching because I was just unimpressed with the overall production. But last night (even though I am too young to know for sure) looked and felt more like the clips they show in montages every few years when they showcase high points of years past. Hugh Jackman, who outside of film has an impressive stage resume, seemed to channel the beast of Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly and Bob Hope all in one. Nothing against Steve Martin, John Stewart, Billy Crystal who all did fine in the past, but for a…

The Expendables…
Well, per the info given on IMDB, principal photography is set to start next month for Sylvester Stallone’s newest flick, The Expendables. I have to say when the whispers started on this last year it raised my eyebrows. Due to the chances he took with ‘against-type’ films in the 90’s, Stallone’s track record became pretty hit or miss. Rocky and First Blood were very solid movies and their sequels were more or less just as impacting and crowd pleasing as their now legendary inceptors. After completing final chapter of the Rocky saga, I think most people forgot about Rocky V and (with as much emotion and power as the Rocky…
