    G-S-T Review…Mama

Seeing those four dreamy and all encompassing words “Once Upon A Time” at the start of any story is a dead give away that what you are about to see is a fairy tale. Translation: not real. But what else does it mean? Is that meant to keep kids (or adults) from being scared? Or is this the only way to make us buy what the story is selling? Not sure but this has all the familiar hallmarks of a fairy tale. This isn’t Little Red Riding Hood and this sure ain’t  kids stuff. Mama calls back to the darker Grimm fairy tales and, as per all the advertising, is in the vein of Pan’s…

Guillermo del Toro is Way Too Busy to Direct 'Star Wars VII'

Who will direct Star Wars Episode VII? Despite having Michael Arndt on-board for writing duties, Disney still hasn’t picked a director for their continuation of George Lucas’ alternately beloved and maligned space opera franchise. That said, we can now add one more name to the list of people who won’t be at the helm of the sci-fi blockbuster: Guillermo del Toro. The news comes courtesy of The Playlist, who had the chance to speak with the celebrated genre prince and got a couple of juicy nuggets of info out of him in the process. Normally, I wouldn’t consider this sort of thing news; why bother reporting on one of the…

    Sweet Trailer…'Pacific Rim'

This may well be the shortest word-for-word piece I’ll ever write for Go, See, Talk!, but that’s only because the highly-anticipated trailer for Pacific Rim speaks for itself. Big monsters, big robots, big imagination, and big excitement all wrapped up in a 2:16 clip. Count this one at the top of my “must-see” list for 2013, and sound off in the comments. (Courtesy of Badass Digest) If the viral website and sweet looking “jaeger” diagrams didn’t do anything for you, this trailer should have rocked your world; it did ours! Directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi (The Brother’s Bloom) Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr. Pacific…

    Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'…It's Big, It's Bad, It's Viral

I’ve checked, double-checked, even triple-checked my calendars, but the date still shows as November 28th and not December 25th. That means Christmas has come early for some of us, courtesy of Warner Brothers, which has kicked off the viral marketing campaign for Pacific Rim in earnest today with a bevvy of preview materials for our enjoyment. We’ve talked about Guillermo Del Toro’s latest around here in the past, and I think it probably goes without saying that most of us on the Go, See, Talk! staff are pretty excited to see one of today’s monster maestros tackle the realm of Godzilla and King Kong with his own kaiju film. (Though…

Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' Gets 3D Converted

Back in July, GST favorite Guillermo Del Toro talked to Collider about his upcoming kaiju film, Pacific Rim, specifically speaking to his decision to forsake the use of 3D technology. The short version is that employing 3D technology to shoot robots of the size he has in mind could lead to issues with scale and perspective in the finished picture, something that any smart filmmaker and artist wisely wants to avoid. But the integrity of Del Toro’s vision and the passion of his sentiment wasn’t enough to defend his project from Warner Bros’ bean counters, as the studio is aiming to give the film the post-conversion treatment in time for its mid-July…

Update On Guillermo del Toro Creature Based Sci-Fi Flick 'Pacific Rim'

Since 2006 Guillermo del Toro has had over a dozen projects in some form of development to his credit (with him either as a writer, director, creative consultant, etc.). His upcoming sci-fi film is the first project that he’s both written and directed since Hellboy II: The Golden Army. So what can we expect from GDT this time around? If you weren’t already aware, submitted for your approval is one Pacific Rim; a film about inter-dimensional/extra-terrestrial creatures attacking Earth. But before you finish your yawn, know that Earth has a fighting chance this time as our saviors of the terra-firma come in the form of 25-foot-tall mechs whose controls are tied into…

    Sweet Trailer…'Splice'

The trailer for Vincenzo Natali’s Splice dropped at the end of last week and man, is this a pretty creepy sci-horror flick!! We first heard of this film in the Fall of last year but haven’t seen much since then…although lucky attendees to Sundance got to see it and have nothing but rave reviews. This trailer looks pretty slick and I like the confined nature that it looks like they’re going for. Or maybe that’s just because of the lab they’re in:P While some will automatically claim this looks surprisingly like a rip-off of Species given the plot synopsis, this looks quite a bit better (although there is no Natasha Henstridge…pity). Anyway, after…
