The marketing for Looper, the time-travel based action thriller from Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brother’s Bloom), has gone from a very cut and dry tumblr blog, to an intriguing shot of the awesome looking time machine to a full-on action packed trailer. Well, following suit comes this equally charged UK trailer…if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s really worth checking out. Enjoy! In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun,…

Sweet 3rd Trailer…'The Dark Knight Rises'
Well Bat-friends, we are getting ever closer to the last leg in Chritopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are two of the finest comic book adapations to ever grace the screen but more important are also just great films. Nolan has incredible reverence for the characters and the mythology and before we go up, up, and away with his Man of Steel project, here’s his final foray into the Gotham part of the DC universe. Behold, the final full trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Was that awesome or what?? No honestly, tell us because we couldn’t watch it. Reason? Well, we believe that a film as…

Ohhh, Look…The Time Machine From Rian Johnson's 'Looper'
Happy Belated New Year to you all!! After the whirlwind of 2011 we are confidently moving into the 2012 line up. FYI, for a good batch of what to look forward to this year, have a gander at our own Andrew Crump’s well crafted 15 films he’s excited to see in 2012. One of the more high profile items on that list and the G-S-T “Must See” list is Rian Johnson’s mysterious and enigmatic time-travel romp Looper. Until now very little has been released, or should I say aside from his Tumbler blog, very little that give us any idea what it will be about has been released. Now we…

Sweet Trailer…'50/50'
If life teaches us anything it’s that sometimes humor can get people through really tough patches. Case in point. 50/50 (or I’m With Cancer as it was originally called) is a film about Adam and how drastically his life is changed when he’s diagnosed with a brain tumor. His world is further turned upside down by the news that his chances to be beat the cancer are “50/50“. Luckily the trailer isn’t as dreary as the premise would make it seem, so have a look for yourself… Wow, I just can’t stop replaying this. The story looks great and if there’s one actor I am continually impressed with each time…

Joseph Gordon-Levitt on SNL
Hello World, Marc Here: While I have been increasingly following the work of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I must say that guy really can do it all. A few days ago I wrote an Off the Shelf post about his turn in Brick (which was just sensational), he proved to be the sharpest knife in the drawer for G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra (not too hard in that one mind you) and his most recent 500 Days of Summer was his best to date. This weekend, he was on Saturday Night Live. I was a little skeptical considering SNL’s bumpy “hit and miss” episodes and not sure how he would fit…

Off the Shelf…'Brick'
As a film fan I don’t think I have done enough research outside my comfort zone of movies to check out independent films, foreign films or films styles to really expand my repetior. That said, one film style or genre I am trying to get into are detective/noir films. Having seen films such classics as Chinatown, The Third Man, and recent noir films such as L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia, I’d say I’m getting there. Though I am missing a big chunk of the old 40’s and 50’s detective stories, I’d like to think I’m ever so slightly starting to appreciate noir detective film. That said, one film that I…
