When you go to the movies, the images on screen can bring out all sorts of emotions – excitement, intrigue, humor, fear, etc. Well, before even one frame of film is shot, a team of very talented concept artists works hard to imagine heroes, villains, costumes, vistas, scenes and settings that will one day light up the silver screen. Now as far as being wowed at the cineplex, it’s hard to get more amazing and spectacular than the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One above-mentioned concept artist adding to that experience is Anthony Francisco. His job, in short, is to give movie goers something they’ve never seen before. That’s…

Ant-Man Marching to Theaters in 2015
Potentially exciting news for Marvel diehards, disciples of Edgar Wright, and anyone with a general interest in superhero films: Wright’s first foray into superherodom, Ant-Man, has an official release date of November 6th, 2015. The announcement comes from an update Disney sent out regarding their slate of upcoming films, which mostly just confirms information we already knew or could have guessed ourselves (like the fact that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 will both be in 3D). Ant-Man having a date on the books, though, is news enough almost on its own merits if only because of Wright’s involvement; he’s an exciting filmmaker and someone whose projects (including next year’s The…

Ohhh, Look…In Case You Missed It – Marvel Easter Eggs Leading Up To The Avengers
Now that everyone who got to see The Avengers this weekend helped contriute to its $200.3 Million opening, let me ask you, how did you like it? Well it should be no secret that we loved it. But while it was the culmination of the 6 origin stories that preceded it, it’s not exactly more than the sum of its parts. Hints, references, reveals and Easter Eggs aplenty from the Marvel universe have been carefully placed in each film leading up to The Avengers, but were you able to catch them all? Hopefully if you haven’t see The Avengers yet, and if it’s been a while since you saw Captain America, Thor, and both…

The Avengers: Minimalist Posters & Fictitious Apple Products
The world is getting amped for The Avengers movie and if you hadn’t been keeping up, it opens in theaters exactly one month from today. The hype machine is high gear and we’ve seen trailers, TV spots, posters as well as behind the scenes featurettes/images. They’re all highly sylized and compelling but as minimalist posters are still kind of the “in” thing I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring this one time. Below are some very simple Avengers character posters and a team poster I designed in sort of a 60’s/retro motif. Again very simple (like 12 minutes to make simple), they’re even minimal for minimalist standards but…

Ohhh, Look…Gorgeous "Avengers Assemble" Posters
Captain America took home the box office gold this weekend (to the tune of $65.8M) and tons of positive reviews. As Steve Rogers is the final Avenger to get his big screen debut (in the Joss Whedonverse that is, we’re going to forget about that other early 90’s Cap flick) we finally have all the pieces in place for next year’s Avengers film. While the idea of a full scale Avengers film was a huge endeavor/risk, Marvel certainly did it right establishing the characters on their own as opposed to a convoluted introduction which would bog down their big budget film from the get go. The road leading up to…
