It’s been a while since a Ridley Scott film has graced the silver screen. However it’s been even longer said screen has shown with a story that audiences have taken to as much as the films from his glory days. His ‘period piece’ films seem to be more miss than hit these days but the man can handle an epic that’s for sure. In fact we’ll even go so far as to defend Kingdom of Heaven (though the Director’s Cut is by far the superior effort) as one of Scott’s best works. In his latest film, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Scott puts his spin on the story of Moses as he…

Sweet Trailer…’The Expendables 3′
“Fool me once“, as the say, “shame on you“. Fool me twice, shame on me. But how will we the audience fare on our third time down the action-heavy rabbit hole? Guess we’ll find out this August. Considering how well Captain America: The Winter Soldier did this April we find that studios are continually kicking off the Summer movie season earlier and earlier. But really, that was more of an appetizer as the coming months hold all true tent-pole films – those big budget blockbuster hopefuls looking to hit their critical and financial marks. So enter Sly and company’s third at bat in his ’80s styled shoot ’em up revival…

Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…Alejandro Iñárritu’s ‘Birdman’
OK, stop what you’re doing. There’s a new Michael Keaton movie on the horizon….and to those of you skimming the title and body of this post too fast, no, he’s not taking up a new cape and kicking crime’s ass (we wish). But he is however starring in the latest from Alejandro Innaritu. In a premise so crazy it might just work fantastically (again, we hope) Michael Keaton is, in fact playing a has-been actor who played a superhero earlier in his career and now seeks so reclaim his former glory in this dark and slightly trippy looking comedy. [Disclaimer: this is in no way autobiographical] This week we’ve seen…

Sweet Trailer…’The Interview’
It really is impressive seeing the lengths to which Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will go in order to get a laugh. That said, The Interview has to be the most ambitious (and ballsy) picture of their careers. Even if the story is in jest this is pushing the limits…then again South Park does this (and worse) all the time so they’re not the most offensive “Western capital pigs” out there. But that’s what they do – they push boundaries – and you have to admire them for making comedy out of whatever they deem to be funny. After all these guys, having been raised on ’80s era comedies, are…

Sweet Trailer…’Frontera’
This year writer/director Michael Berry brought his passion project to Dallas for the 44th Annual USA Film Festival. His film, Frontera, is a slow-boil drama about a mistaken murder that revolves around an illegal immigrant looking for a better life here in America. We got to speak to Berry while he was in town (check out our interview here!) and discuss this heavy and layered narrative – one that has a lot more going on under the surface than on top of it. We know how solid and emotionally taut the film is but now that the first trailer dropped we’re excited to see Berry’s film hopefully find a wider…

Sweet (2nd) Trailer…Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
We’re not going to waste your time with this post. All you need to know is the newest Guardians of the Galaxy trailer is out, so check it out now. Like right now! Like what are you doing still reading this?? Enjoy the awesomeness below!! In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. With equal parts sarcasm and action, thanks in large part to James Gunn and the spectacular cast he’s assembled, this looks to be an insanely fun outing. Reminiscent of The Fifth Element (in style and the hybrid sci-fi…

Sweet (International) Trailer…’Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’
This Summer, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) will unleash the Simian uprising better known as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Actually, as far as the timeline of the time goes, the apes have pretty much won due largely in part to the “Simian Flu” outbreak that has decimated the human population. This sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes begins a decade after the events of the 2011 film and tells how the apes have continued to grow in number and intelligence. The next installment of the Apes franchise puts humanity on the brink of extinction and all-out war to decide who will now rule the planet…but we…

Sweet TV Trailer…'Gotham'
While we’re not really into TV programs (well, we watch a lot of it we just don’t report/post much of it), we’re excited about what Fox will give Bat-fans this fall. As films, namely comic-based ones, are continually finding success having their universes explored and expanded on the small screen (you ever hear of a little show called Smallville?) now DC is showing us the city that raised young Master Wayne in the wake of his parents’ deaths. Originally this series was envisioned like a Batman before he was Batman, the show changed focus to instead follow a young Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie). It’s actually pretty intriguing that…

Sweet Trailer…’Palo Alto’
Gia Coppola, granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, has already been making a name for herself with her debut film Palo Alto. The film, based on stories from James Franco’s book of the same name, chronicles the complicated ties and heightened emotions among a group of high school students. This dark drama is centered on a group of teens with a penchant for finding trouble. We’re sold, but have a look at the trailer… Shy, sensitive April (Emma Roberts) is a popular soccer player and frequent babysitter for her single-dad coach, Mr. B. (James Franco). Teddy (played by Jack Kilmer) is an introspective artist whose best friend and sidekick…

Sweet Trailer…’The Drop’
For those of you looking for gritty old-school NYC based crime dramas then look no further. Michaël R. Roskam directs Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini in The Drop and this story (formerly titled Animal Rescue) is centered on a former criminal who tries to go the straight and narrow. However he happens to work at the same bar that funnels funnels cash to local gangsters through “money drops” in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Enjoy the first trailer below… A crime-drama centered around a former criminal trying to straighten out his life as the bartender, a lost pit bull, a wannabe scam artist, and a killing. As this is officially…
