    G-S-T Review…Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch has a whole lotta everything going on, and I do mean everything. To its credit, the gritty and gorgeous CG mess in front of your eyes should make everyone in the theater smile, even if they don’t really know why or what’s going on. This film has it all and Snyder’s style is there in spades. But it does lack a depth that made his previous film Watchmen so compelling. Granted Zack Snyder didn’t write the Watchmen graphic novel so the level of expectation can’t be that comparable in terms of story. But Sucker Punch tells a tale as odd/mixed as a child taking out his toys and playing with…

    Awesome 'Sucker Punch' Animated Comic

Zack Snyder has been making hit after hit after hit in Hollywood. His artistic style and his hi-octane level of film make him appeal to a such a wide range of film fans. So before he dazzles us with the upcoming Superman film he offers us a delectable nugget of visual awesomeness in the form of one Sucker Punch. So, like a kid at Christmas I eagerly await his upcoming film that looks to be saturated with so much style and eye candy it’ll make your head spin. To help get more people on board, here is a neat looking animated short/tie-in to Sucker Punch called “The Trenches”. Light on…

Costner Approached for Snyder's Superman…Wait, WHAT?

Fans of G-S-T should know there are three actors I will watch in anything: Sylvester Stallone, Michael Keaton and Kevin Costner. Imagine my surprise yesterday to hear that Ray Kinsella himself, Kevin Costner (supposedly) has been approached regarding a role in Zack Snyder’s Superman film. Wow, this just makes me…sorry, *wipes tear of joy from face* this is the best news/rumor I’ve heard this year. But is this fan speculation or is there merit to it. Known for credible and very reliable facts, Latino Review is reporting what the role is but just because it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it’s written in stone…yet. I’m still waiting for news straight from the mouth of Zack Snyder. So…

The Wait for Superman Is Over

Yes friends, the coveted role of Kal-El has gone to one Henry Cavill. So much to the chagrin of Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and countless fan-boys the world over wanting them to reprise their roles, Superman will instead be played by a 27 year old British actor (of “The Tudors” fame previously). Kind of weird coming off the weekend and reading headlines like “The Man of Steel is a Brit!!” right? But hey, stranger things have happened. While this seems out of the blue, this does come down from the top in an official statement released yesterday: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and…

    Ohhh, Look…’Sucker Punch’ Featurette

If you were wow’d by the Sucker Punch trailer that hit earlier this year, then you should enjoy this little featurette about the film. Very brief, just a bit of story exposition but still it doesn’t give too much away. This is kind of like one of those snippets you’d see between movies on HBO, Showtime and the like (plus I like the hearing from Scott Glenn). So for those of you inclined take a look… That’s just what it needed to be…another glimpse of the film without spoiling anything which is good because that’s one thing that keeps ruining films these days. It’s that over awareness of a film…

    G-S-T Top 10 – Flicks for Halloween

While the “Horror genre” is not my cup of tea, there are some films that I really enjoy watching. They are well done and really scare the crap out of me which is just what you’d want from a Halloween flick right? It’s not that I like horror films but each of these on this list have a quality content which puts them (severed) “head and shoulders” above the predictable, stereotypical and disposable slasher flicks. This time of year, I enjoy watching these films to get me in the Halloween mood. So to get us in the spirit for All Hallow’s Eve, I thought share my suggestions (in no particular…

    Sweet Trailer…'Sucker Punch'

Well the more I hear and see about Comic-Con 10, the more bummed that I was unable to attend. But thanks to absolutely great coverage by sites like First Showing (G-S-T’s top choice for up to the minute movie info) and Screen Rant (a site equally just as good) it’s just like being there…only way cheaper:P So if you haven’t been keeping up this and other anticipated films like it, behold, we simple people’s first look at Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch… There sure is a lot going on in the trailer, not sure how that cornucopia of great visuals will play out on screen in a cohesive story. But as far as the story…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Great Filmmakers Who Began in Horror

I’m no film historian but I have noticed something consistent in the films I’ve seen. While there’s no surefire formula for success in Hollywood, it’s a good bet that if you want to make it big, you have to start in horror. Now many people may not enjoy horror films but there are a number of uberly talented people working with buckets of blood, fake limbs and scary power tools. In many cases, those productions could just be their ticket to the big leagues. One day, I’d bet, we might just see one of those unknown, unsuspecting directors walking across the stage at Oscar night for something they’ll do later on…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Best Action Melee Scenes

Let’s face it, when we walk into an action movie, we don’t want realism. We want our hero to be “10 feet tall and bulletproof“. We want him/her to know tons of bone crunching self-defense, walk through a battle unscathed and maybe, just maybe, if we’ve suspended all our disbelief, our hero will be able to walk on water. Now as action films go, pushing the envelope is a requirement, nay, obligation and most times, despite the lunacy of what happening on-screen, we always think bigger and better is the way to go…except in Transformers 2. Yet for as long as films have had that genre defining high action content,…
