    Sweet Trailer…'Pariah'

From writer/director Dee Rees comes the feature length expansion of her award-winning 2007 short film Pariah. After the screening last night, I’d have to say this is probably the most surprisingly heartfelt and enjoyable film I’ve seen so far this half of 2011. Sporting a talented cast led by Adepero Oduye (and no less than 9 producers including Spike Lee), Pariah is a finely acted and written film, I’d seriously suggest you check out this honest and inspirational film… 17 year old Alike (pronounced ah-lee-kay) is quietly but firmly embracing her identity as a lesbian. With the sometimes boisterous support of her best friend, out lesbian Laura (Pernell Walker), Alike is especially…

    Sweet Trailer…'Shame'

From writer/director Steve McQueen comes the controversial and sexual drama Shame. It’s about Brandon, a 30-something New Yorker, who’s private life (which allows him to indulge his sexual addiction) begins to unravel after his sister moves into his apartment for an indefinite stay. Starring Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) and Carey Mulligan (Drive) this trailer gives just a hint at the anxious intensity to be expected in McQueen’s follow up to Hunger. Have a look, it’s pretty riveting… Wow huh? Seemingly in the same vein of Black Swan and other dark but powerful films like it, McQueen’s latest feature is a courageous exploration of modern life’s extremes. Despite the controversy around the…

Sweet Trailer…'The Secret World of Arrietty'

Calling all you Ghibli fans!! After nearly 2 years of waiting we’re going to finally get a US theatrical release of The Arrietty (originally The Borrowers) aka Kari-gurashi no Arietty. Inspired by Mary Norton’s children’s fantasy novels this was released by The Toho Company in Japan last summer and Walt Disney is bringing this, like the UK release before now, to our theaters next year. Hand picked by Miyazaki himself, this feature is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi who is another in the series of Studio Ghibli artists/animators making his directorial debut. Have a look at the beauty, wonder and spectacle in what looks to be another gem from the world famous Studio…

    Sweet (TV) Trailer…'Life's Too Short'

Earlier this year we posted the announcement trailer for the new Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant series Life’s Too Short. The team’s upcoming BBC Two/HBO series is a faux-documentary following a highly fictionalized life of actor Warwick Davis (Willow). Much like his own appearance in Gervais’ Extras, Warwick is seems just fine having a laugh at himself. Also along for the ride is a slew of  stellar guest stars…but I won’t ruin if for you. Have a look and enjoy!! The duo behind the original The Office look to have another hit on their hands replete with all the awkward and uncomfortably brash comedy (like this for example) we’ve come to expect and grown…

    Sweet Trailer…'The Devil Inside'

With found footage films making a resurgence as of late the next film coming down the pike (but sadly not in time for Halloween) is The Devil Inside. The first we heard of this was in the creepy viral video/911 call released last week and now we have a full on trailer which looks to have found footage goodness (well faux-documentary if you want to get specific) written all over it. Let’s just hope the final product comes out as good as it’s teasing. Have a look for yourself and enjoy! In the same vein as the Eli Roth produced film The Last Exorcism this hopefully will offer something worth…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'The Avengers'

Oh boy comic fans, today is a very special day. The teaser for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers just hit the web and it’s got fan boys (and girls) excited for what is probably the largest superhero movie ever created. Assembling the members one by one in semi-interweaving origin stories Marvel (and now Disney) has taken one helluva chance on the success of this ensemble film. I have a feeling that it’ll be awesome but you probably don’t need me to tell you that right? So until we get a full trailer, another and the endless TV spots, have a look at what Whedon will be bringing us next May. Man, I know…

    Sweet Tr-a-iler…'My Week with Marilyn'

Happy Birthday Mr. President indeed! Premiering today is the trailer for the much publicized film My Week with Marilyn starring the wonderfully talented Michelle Williams. Following the story of  Marilyn Monroe during her visit to London in the 50s to shoot The Prince and the Showgirl, this Weinstein Company backed film attempts to show the more human (read: troubled) side of the world’s most beloved blond bombshell that few have ever seen. It’s certainly impressive, so check it out for yourselves, wont you… The Weinstiens not withstanding I’m getting a vibe similar to The King’s Speech, but maybe that’s just me. The trailer doesn’t have me completely sold but I suspect I am just going to love this. For the…

Sweet (UK) Trailer…'The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn'

While I wasn’t really sold on the last few trailers for The Adventures of Tintin this one does look really sweet! Partially I think I was just trying to avoid as much Tintin as possible but with a video this great how could you not watch, right? Below is the UK version that proves once again that some of the coolest adversting campaigns are used across the pond. Well, no matter, thanks to the Internets you can bask in the same glory as our UK friends. So batten you hatches and enjoy some Indiana Jones styled mo-cap fun in this new trailer for the CG Spielberg/Jackson epic… Video: MSN Exclusive: The Adventures…

    Sweet Trailer…'The Lady'

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen something from Luc Besson that looked this good! The Lady is a film adaptation chronicling the life of pro-democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi and the academic and writer Michael Aris. It’s a true story of love set against political turmoil that really really looks like a stunner with tons of emotional weight behind it. Have a look for yourselves… The Lady stars Michelle Yeoh (as real-life Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi) and I’m glad to see her taking a role that’s against type. I’ve been saying it for years that sure she can high kick but she can also act…

Sweet Trailer…'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close'

A decade after the events of September 11th I’m not sure anyone is close to being done greiving…but enough time has passed that should have let a larger number of people come to terms with it. Not long after I left yesterday’s screener of Margaret (review coming on 10/7) I found this on our buddy Castor’s page Anamolous Material. After coming out of such a heavy and lengthy film, which in a way dealt with the aftermath of 9/11 as well, I think I needed this quasi-pick-me up. Behold, the first trailer for the film adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close… From the point of view of 9-year-old Oskar (amateur inventor,…
